Osun State has made a remarkable leap in its national education rankings, climbing from 33rd position in early 2022 to 7th in the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) results released by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
This significant achievement underscores Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to revitalizing the state’s education sector, a key promise from his 2022 gubernatorial campaign.
Governor Adeleke’s pledge to bring Osun into the single-digit rankings has demonstrably begun to bear fruit. The “Standard Educational Performance Ranking of States in 2024 SSCE” report from NECO confirms this upward trajectory.
According to the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole, the results showcase the administration’s dedication to restoring Osun’s historical academic prominence, a position it held since its creation in 1991.
Osun’s impressive showing is underscored by the fact that 29,101 out of 41,264 candidates who sat for the exam achieved at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. This translates to an approximate 71% success rate – the highest in 18 years.
The state’s success is further highlighted by a strong gender-based performance. Osun’s male candidates secured the 10th national position with a 69.2% success rate, while female candidates achieved an even more impressive 6th national position, boasting a 72% success rate.
This overall improvement isn’t just limited to the SSCE results. Osun State also recently celebrated a significant international victory: securing the top spot for Nigeria in the prestigious Malaysia International Debate Competition in December 2024. This demonstrates a broader trend of rising academic excellence across various levels of education within the state.
The remarkable turnaround in Osun’s educational performance is a testament to the effective implementation of Governor Adeleke’s educational policies and initiatives.
This success story not only serves as an inspiration for other states but also reinforces the crucial role of strong leadership and strategic investment in shaping a brighter future for the youth of Osun State.
